City located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. As of the United States 2000
Census, the city had a total population of 7,913.
South Amboy Geography:
South Amboy is located at 40°28'53" North, 74°17'6" West (40.481455,
-74.285125). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total
area of 7.0 km2 (2.7 mi2). 4.0 km2 (1.5 mi2) of it is land and 3.0 km2 (1.1
mi2) of it is water. The total area is 42.59% water.
South Amboy Demographics:
As of the census of 2000, there are 7,913 people, 2,967 households, and 2,041
families residing in the city. The population density is 1,971.1/km2
(5,102.1/mi2). There are 3,110 housing units at an average density of 774.7/km2
(2,005.3/mi2). The racial makeup of the city is 94.22% White, 0.86% African
American, 0.19% Native American, 1.38% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.71%
from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races.6.75% of the population are
Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,967 households out of which 32.2%
have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% are married couples
living together, 14.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and
31.2% are non-families. 25.9% of all households are made up of individuals and
12.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The
averagehousehold size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.22. In the city
the population is spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to
24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age
