Fred Henry - Councilman-at-Large, Council President

Born (1950) and raised in South Amboy Son of Ann Henry and the late Fred Henry, Sr. (former Councilman-at-Large). of South Amboy Married (2000) to Linda MacKay Henry, a South Amboy Elementary School teacher Resides at 304 Main St.

 

3 children: Kristen (born 1977) graduated Hoffman High School and Rutgers University Erin (born 1980) graduated South Amboy High School and Rutgers University Fred III (born 1986) graduated South Amboy High School and William Paterson University

Education:

  • Graduated (1973) Trenton State College with a BA in social studies and English
  • Graduated (1970) Middlesex County College with an AA in Liberal Arts
  • Graduated (1968) St. Marys High School, South Amboy
  • Attended Rutgers University and Kean College for additional courses in English and history

  • 1992 Named to Board of Education ad hoc committee concerning the overcrowding of the South Amboy school system. Helped to devise the revolutionary concept of a community school which integrated the public school with community services.

South Amboy City Government:

  • 1992 appointed as Councilman-at-Large
  • 1993 elected in a special election as Councilman-at-Large
  • 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006 elected as Councilman-at-Large
  • 1993 to 2001 elected as Vice-president of the city council
  • 2002 to 2003 elected as President of the city council
  • 2004 to 2005 elected as Vice-president of the city council
  • 2006 to present elected as President of the city council
  • 1996 to 2006 served as council representative to the Redevelopment Agency and elected as Vice-chairman and then as Chairman of the Agency.

Joseph E Connors, 51, grew up in South Amboy, graduating from H G Hoffman High School n 1972. After attending Middlesex County College, he then attended Rutgers University. Previously employed at Dupont for 28 years, Connors is currently serves as a supervisor in the Cyrel Research and Development Dept. He and his wife of 29 years, Debbie, have 3 children. Tara. Brain and Erin.

Served on Vestry for 3 terms as a member of Christ Church. Coached youth Baseball and Softball for 26 years (1973-1996)
Member of Protection Engine Company No. 1 since 1973, and has served as Captain and Secretary South Amboy Planning Board Member Since 1988, serving as Chairman for 12 years
Member of South Amboy Recreation Advisory Committee for 8 years (1989-1997)
Member of South Amboy Juvenile Conference Committee for 6 years (1995 -2001)
Member of Democratic committee from (1989-1996)
Member South Amboy Board of Education (1997-2002)



Russ Stillwagon - Councilman, First Ward

Russ has been a resident of the City of South Amboy for over forty-eight years. His commitment to our City, its youth and all people has been shown by the various activities he has undertaken over the years. Russ has served as a Boy Scout Leader, coached inthe Babe Ruth League for seventeen years and Pop Warner Football League for fourteen years. Russ served as a member of the South Amboy PTA while he children attended school.

Russ has been an active member of the Mechanicsville Hose Company for over forty-eight years. He has served as Captain, and as President worked with the Mayor and Council to renovate the Mechanicsville Firehouse.

Russell became Councilman in July, 1991. During this time he has served on the Solid Waste Committee, the Redevelopment Agency, Housing and Community Development, the Welfare Assistance Board and presently serves as the City’s liaison to the Middlesex County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund and is a member of the Public Housing Authority Board.

Russ was instrumental in the installation of the four-way light at the intersection of Raritan Street and Ridgeway Avenue as well as the safety light at the intersection of Raritan and Alpine Streets.



Mark Noble - Councilman, Second Ward

Mark Noble is a 21-year veteran of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office. Mark Noble has been a member of the Planning Board for seven years. He is also a member of the South Amboy Renaissance Corporation. Mark Noble coaches 7th and 8th grade girls basketball at Sacred Heart, and coaches softball for South Amboy. Mark Noble is also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sons of the American Legion South Amboy Post 62 and the Irish-American Association.
